Levin 1973 W-36 - Rare Acoustic Guitar For Sale - £850 - Sold

Levin W-36 Circa 1973 (exact date unknown as no serial number or label) This is a rather rare guitar from Levin, with the unique individual saddle pieces. Stopped producing this model with the individual saddles in 1974, so not a huge amount were made. Based on the Martin Dreadnought shape, Levin were known for producing exceptional quality and challenging Martin at the time. So much so that Martin bought the factory and Levin started producing guitars for them. This specific model sports a smaller scale at 630mm (24.8"). When I got my hands on this guitar, it has some extensive damage to the sides, the back and neck. (You can see this in the gallery below). I have performed some pretty major repairs to this guitar, and I am pleased to have got it back up and running again! Removed the back, glued up the sides, install side supports, reassembled and refinished the back/sides. I stripped the central portion of the neck, removing some dents and then refinished the neck too. You can see the original colour/finish on the headstock and heel, I left these areas original. I have also left the top with the signs of its age, there is a lot of bumps, dents, grooves, player marks to show for its age. You can see all of this in the photos. I prefer to leave the history on the instrument, having to refinish the back/sides was integral to the repair. The machine heads are not original, but correct to the style/age of the instrument and hold the tuning. This is a lovely unique vintage 50 year old instrument that deserves to be played. No case supplied but I can source a case from Hiscox if required. Specs: Top: Spruce Back/Sides: Mahogany Neck: Mahogany Fingerboard: Rosewood Bridge: Rosewood (with unique individual saddles) Scale: 630mm (24.8") Strings: Ernie Earthwood 11s Action at 12th: Low E - 3.1mm, High E 2.8mm
