Mandriolas (12 String Mandolins) are fairly rare instruments in general, not many makers produce them. These Arnold Hoyer ones seem very rare, I can't really find much information out about them online and very few examples that have been for sale previously.
It's an impressive unique instrument, clearly styled after an archtop guitar. With a lovely carved Spruce top with f holes and carved maple back/sides. Finished with a lovely sunburst. Everything is original as far as I can tell and is in great condition. The tuners are a little stiff, but this isn't surprising given the instrument is roughly 70 years old. There is a split in the top, running from the bridge down to the bottom edge. It has previously been repaired and is stable. Can be seen in the photos below. Low action and plays great, I've done the usual clean up/ oiling the fingerboard. This instrument came from a deceased gents collection, I am selling on behalf of his widow with the proceeds going to the hospice that he passed in. Specs: Top: Carved Spruce Back/Sides: Carved Maple Neck: Maple Fingerboard: Ebony (with white binding & mother of pearl block inlays) Bridge: Ebony Scale: 345mm No case supplied, could source something if required
